Rules of engagement

REMEMBER!
You are not insured . Every competitor enters ECMC 2006 at their own risk. Helsinki BMA ry is not responsible for any accidents that happen during the competition between competitors or tarmac. Every competitor has signed (during registration) document which reliefs Helsinki BMA ry from responsible.

Main Race

GENERAL RULES
-helmets are must (even if youīre wearing horns)
-keep yer number visible
-bag, lock, pen and so on.. whatever you use during working day at the streets.
-be on time at the start of your heat, you might not have a 2nd chance.
-ALWAYS obey the Lords (race officials). If you disobey you WILL be disqualified and whipped.
-Pick up in order which manifest tells you, deliver when ever you want to. -Leave your bike where the Race Lord tells you and lock your bike at the mandatory lock checkpoints. Beware bike thieves, they even might know how to ride fixed gear.

COURSE
-Streets are one way
-keep yer arse on the designated course
-try to keep your manifest(s) neat and tidy to stamp and/or to read
-obey the Lords

If you donīt obey these simple and easy rules prepare to be disqualified and fed to wild badgers

Sprints

4 riders at the time struggle who is the fastest on a short distance.

Velodrome.. fixed gears/track bikes only

-Last Man Riding
Riders start in a group and picks up some speed for two rounds. After that the last rider of every round will be picked from the group.
When only 3 riders are competing last one drops at every two rounds.

-1km sprint
one rider at the time rides like wind of Valhalla for 1 kilometer. You will be timed and the winner is who rides the fastest.

Fixed events

-Trackstand: you lose a limb on every 3 minutes, starting from arms and then legs. No tricks or petting the wheels with your feet. Who stays up the longest is the winner and a trackstand buddha for a year.

-Skids: take some speed from the designated line and lock your backwheel on the designated line later on. Who skids the longest is the winner. Two tries.. make it worth skidding. NO PUMPING WITH THE CRANKS!

-Backwards circles: circling backwards. More you circle the better. Most circles win. Two tries.

-Last Man Standing: Two riders enter the designated ring, one rider leaves. You have to make your opponent touch the ground with foot or other body part. Your hands and legs have to be on the handlebars and on the pedals. If you ride outside the ring you lose. Who stays the longest in the ring will be Last Man Standing (wins are counted). Be gentle. One try per knight.

-Fixed Gear Dual: Two riders at the time and at their own lane. Crossing the other competitors lane will lead to DISQUALIFYING.
Obstacles and what to do:
Car fronts..SKID in the designated area if you fail to skid long enough you will be DISQUALIFIED.
Pedestrians crossing.. avoid getting any physical contact, if you make CONTACT, you will be DISQUALIFIED.
Baby roller.. suddenly baby and its mother are in your way, stop and TRACKSTAND until the LORD gives you signal to continue. If you kill the baby, you will be DISQUALIFIED.
Hood slide Starsky and Hutch style.. use your best showman skills to slide/bunnyhop/whatever to get over the car hood. Slalom.. avoid getting hit by parked cars.

Polo Hellsinki rules

No playing foot on the ground, goals are scored with the end of the mallot. Ball is in the game always unless a goal is scored . Please donīt pass the ball through the goals. 3 on 3 teams, goals are about hub to hub wide. Be gentlemen and gentlewomen and gentle.

Liability release and Assumption of risk

Competitor understands that competing with bicycles at messenger race is dangerous. Race course has uphills and downhills, lots of crossings, other contestants and the weather might be rainy (pavement is slippery). These things may cause dangerous situations and accidents in worst case.

ECMC 2006 Helsinki messenger race organizers have not insured riders of the race or the spectators racing within area.

Helsinki BMA ry is not responsible for any accidents or material damage during ECMC 2006 Helsinki messenger race.

Race organizers have not insured the riders. Every competitor has insured him/herself sufficiently.
